PuzzleFlow Mosaic is a comprehensive production system for printing enterprises aiming at using Internet for obtaining orders. It is not only a specialised internet shop but also a complete system of orders processing performed by a print shop. It is equipped with workflow for prepress processing (PuzzleFlow Workflow) and the postpress processes (printing monitoring, bindery, packing and shipment).

PuzzleFlow Mosaic was designed in order to provide automation and standardization of printing products manufacturing. The material delivered by the customer is immediately verified taking into account the technology requirements for each type of products. The documents meeting the specified criteria are accepted and, if needed, automatically amended by the print shop.

Problems and Challenges

Tough competition, wide accessibility of services and constantly decreasing mark-ups are the main problems faced by the printing services suppliers. Meeting the current market requirements would be impossible without automation of processes related to the offer generating, acceptance and processing of orders. 

Another challenge often produced by the customers, in particular the corporate ones, is personalising the internet shop, including adjustment of the view and offer to the needs of the particular customer. In such a scenario print shop becomes a subcontractor and therefore ensures itself the constant cooperation and inflow of larger amount of orders.

Both for the retail and mass markets it is important that the print shop offer includes  high quality template products, filled with data entered directly on the shop’s website. This enables access to an interesting marketing tool allowing for fast and simple method of producing the needed materials.


Implementation of the PuzzleFlow Mosaix product aims at expanding the portfolio of orders and acquiring clients for standard works which may be connected with each other at the production stage. This means more comprehensive use of machines and people, higher efficiency, increased quality control while cutting own costs. It does not require constant engagement of personnel and reduces the most time consuming activities to the minimum.

In our system each stage of the production process is subject to automation, including:

  • placing the order and payment
  • acquisition and verification of the on-line material
  • correction of files adjusted to the product specification
  • imposition taking into account merging many products (job ganging)
  • production following and monitoring
  • integration with courier systems
  • stock on hand monitoring
  • verification of offer prices based on material and service costs

Launching additional virtual shop within the system allows for adjusting the offer and the portal view to the particular groups of customers.  Therefore the service may have various internet addresses (URL), products portfolio, graphic design and prices.

Using the product templates the user may not only deliver material ready to print but also use the graphic patterns prepared by a professional personnel. The easy on-line personalisation allows for fast preparation of an impressive marketing material. The product templates may be prepared in generally available graphic programs.


The correction process may include the PDF format conversion, format adjustment, bleeds and colour transformation based on the background profiles on which the product is to be printed as well as transparency flattening, overprint correction, trapping and other advanced operations. As an effect, we deliver for production already proofed, amended material compatible with the specified standard  (PDF/X).

The amended material is delivered for remote acceptance. Depending on the accepted communication mode with the customer, it may be a simple acceptance of the whole product (one-click approval) or a hierarchical product acceptance process based on version control of its particular pages.

Upon its acceptance, the product is forwarded for production. At this stage the system allows for automatic assembly based on the specifics of given products and definition of printing equipment and optimising the use of page area.

Press and PostPress

In the PuzzleFlow Mosaix products bar codes are used for products identification available on a generated process chart. This enables monitoring each stage of order processing from rendering, exposure, through printing and bindery to the order completion, packing and shipment.

Management Board

Sales analyses and reports from the production process may significantly support the management board operations. In our solution we provide standard sales analyses and summary reports on the employees work time at the chosen stages of order processing and production.

The Solution Advantages - Key Features

  • The PuzzleFlow Mosaix is a method for acquiring orders through the Internet.  The system has its WebShop designed especially for the printing products. A customer may order printing the product based on his design or based on a finished, personalised template. The Mosaix WebShop may be presented in various ways depending on the various target groups, e.g. other products, prices, graphic outlay for individual customers and other ones for business partners. The system performs preflight using ISO standards while sending the jobs and informs the client on any possible errors and the necessary amendments.
  • Material preparation. The material delivered to the print shop is subject to fully automated conversion, optimisation and correction, with its result being works meeting the restrictive PDF/X standard requirements. It is possible to perform additional specialist operations one each page of the product separately, taking into account the whole history of amendments.
  • Imposition. The system allows for automatic  imposition of materials based on printed product specifics and machines definitions. It has inbuilt optimisation mechanism for use of the printers’ spreads. If needed, it also enables performance of manual imposition adjustments. JDF standard is used for performing impositions.
  • Acceptance. The system prepares material for acceptance and sends applicable notification to the client.
  • Production. Each product has its own process chart. Apart from the technical information describing the printed product, it also has a unique product ID and bar code. Scanning the bar code at any production work station allows for immediate location of the product and automatic change of its status. Monitoring all the production work stations simplifies the burden control.
  • Marketing. The system enables defining promotion activities for the chosen group of products or for the chosen group of clients. It also enables performance of combined sales.
  • Management. Registers prices and changes in stocks status of materials are taken into account while creating price lists of products. The process is supported by collective lists, prices simulations and statistics.
  • Integration. Open standards enable integration with external systems. Thanks to the modular architecture, it is possible to adjust the service to the company needs with regards to personalisation of the outlay and functional modifications.
